Take a Peek at Photoshop's Near Future
Photoshop’s senior product manager, Bryan O’Neil Hughes, gives you a glimpse into Photoshop CS6. Although Adobe hasn’t officially announced when CS6 will be released, the fact that this sneak peek is out in the wild makes me think it won’t be, say, 2013!
Using a photo he shot with his mobile phone, Bryan demonstrates some of the new power and finesse in Camera Raw, the raw processing engine behind Photoshop CS6 and Lightroom 4 (now in beta).
Here are a few highlights from the sneak peek, which you can watch in its entirety below: Camera Raw’s new Basic panel gives you more consistent control over your image adjustments. Highlight and Shadow sliders let you recover far more information in areas that are too light and too dark. You can also paint in adjustments using a brush and a graduated filter.
In addition, Photoshop has a darker interface by default, or you can tweak the shade of the interface and the background to your liking, as long as it falls somewhere between white and black. And what Adobe’s calling “rich cursor support” gives you a readout of a brush’s diameter, hardness, and opacity onscreen as you’re using it.
I highly recommend watching the sneak peek in full-screen mode for the best experience:
